City of Santa Clarita

There is nothing quite like stepping outside and enjoying a breath of fresh air. As a parent, it is especially satisfying to watch your kids get out of the house to enjoy a stroll on the paseos or head to your local park. With children of my own, I know how tough it can be to get kids to put down their devices — especially now that they are spending more time at home. However, there are new ways the City of Santa Clarita is reaching youth through their devices while encouraging healthy habits and physical fitness. One such program, which launched in Santa Clarita last year, is called Agents of Discovery. This app-based mobile game takes users out into the world to learn about topics such as local history, wildlife, the environment and more. Users of all ages can download the free Agents of Discovery app to a smartphone and play the game anywhere that a participating organization has created a “mission.” Though missions are completed by using a smartphone, they require Agents to explore their surroundings to find new tasks that they then use to progress through the game.
The City of Santa Clarita is known for its 35 beautiful parks and thousands of acres of pristine open space. With a variety of recreational activities for youth, teens and senior citizens, the City of Santa Clarita encourages community engagement and participation by creating unique and quality programs to improve the quality of life for the community. The City currently has two fun Agents of Discovery Missions that users can explore!
Missions
Fire Safety Trivia at Rivendale Ranch at Towsley Canyon Open Space Mission
Located at the mouth of Towsley Canyon, Rivendale was formerly an equestrian and riding center. This enjoyable and scenically varied hike explores both Rivendale Open Space, one of Santa Clarita’s newer open spaces, and the Canyon View Loop in the larger, more famous Ed Davis Park. During your Mission, you will discover new and exciting facts about fire safety on the Elder Trail at Rivendale Ranch at Towsley Canyon.
Santa Clarita Trivia at Old Town Newhall Mission
Welcome to Old Town Newhall, Agent! Since the 1800s, when gold was first discovered in nearby Placerita Canyon, Santa Clarita and the surrounding area have developed a rich history. Old Town Newhall is known to be the historic core of Santa Clarita, as it is the oldest neighborhood within the City. Bringing the right mix of retail, restaurant and entertainment was crucial for the redevelopment of Old Town Newhall, and the area is now home to more than 60 different businesses. A new public library was built in the vibrant and reenergized Arts and Entertainment District, and the City opened a business incubator to grow creative and technology-focused businesses in the heart of Old Town Newhall. Today, the area has a variety of spots to check out, such as the Walk of Western Stars and The MAIN theatre.
