Making A Mission

Once you have purchased a package for your organization or begun a free trial, you’ll become a Mission Maker! That means you’ll be able to transform your stories and content into interactive augmented reality (AR) experiences.

Here’s How it Works

1. Build a Mission in the language(s) of your choice

2. Instantly publish your Mission to the Google Play and App Store

3. Your players can access the Mission for free

MISSION TYPES

How players navigate your Mission is up to you! Click here to learn more about Mission Types, or contact us to request a demo.

  • Play on Site – Encourage players to explore your site through GPS, signs, or QR codes.
  • Play at Home – Reach players near and far with at-home Missions!

WHAT GOES INTO A MISSION?

Challenges

Challenges are the games and activities that make up a Mission. It’s easy to make your own Challenges from scratch, or pick and pull Challenges from our Challenge Library.

You are in full control of each Challenge, including its question(s), answer(s), and Challenge type, along with other contextual information.

With 12 different Challenge types to choose from, it’s easy to incorporate text, images, sounds, and AR into your Mission!

Image Checklist

A multiple-choice question with one or more correct image-based answers.

AR Sorter

Players sort Augmented Reality objects into categories by moving them into the appropriate container.

Text Checklist

A multiple-choice question with one or more correct text-based answers.

Sound Matcher

Players try to match the correct image with the correct sound effect to answer the question.

AR Catch

The player looks around the real world for moving virtual objects, and then launches another virtual object to catch them.

Augmented Reality (AR)
What is AR?

Augmented Reality (AR) is what you get when you overlay digital graphics on top of live video. The Agents of Discovery app uses mobile AR, meaning users can easily play from their mobile devices. They interact with digital objects through the touch screen.

AR Object Library

Access our collection of 3D AR objects to create your own augmented reality Challenges. Our object library has hundreds of items for you to choose from, including flora, fauna, seasonal items, and more. (Don’t see the item you were looking for? Talk to us about custom AR objects.)

Challenge Library

The Challenge Library allows you to view thousands of curated and user-generated Challenges ‒ all of which can be quickly added to your Mission. You’ll find Challenges on flora & fauna, art, culture, history, math, science, and lots more! Plus, with our seasonal collection, it’s easy to whip up Missions for holidays and special events.

NEXT GENERATION SCIENCE STANDARDS:

Our Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) collection is freely available in our Challenge Library. It gives you over 1,000 ready-to-go questions and activities aligned with NGSS, developed by a team of renowned scientists and science educators.

Open Source Images & Sounds

Upload your own media, or easily add open source digital images and sounds to your Challenges using our Creative Commons integration.

FIELD AGENTS

Players are guided through Missions by a Field Agent. The Field Agent introduces players to the Mission and its Challenges, plus provides some helpful tips along the way.

There are lots of Field Agents to choose from! Click here to view a list of basic Field Agents.

MAPS

Your map allows players to navigate the Mission at your site. Once you select your Mission location, your map is automatically created through Google satellite imagery.

You also have the option to upload a custom map. (See our Pricing page for details.)

Can I change my Mission after it has been published?

We actually recommend it! Even great content should be switched up now and again. It’s a best practice to rotate Missions according to the season, programs and special events happening at the site. That way there’s always something new for players to experience.

It’s easy to change your Missions by using the content available in the libraries.

What if I don't have time to make a Mission?

This is one we hear a lot. We know you’re looking for quality programming at your site, and it can take time to create something amazing. But fear not! We’re here to help.

Our Silver and Gold packages include 1-2 free custom-built Missions, created by our Education Specialists.

If you want to create your own Mission or change an existing one, check out our Challenge Library. We have thousands of pre-made Challenges!
