Mission of the Month: North Tahoe Public Utility District

“Here in Lake Tahoe, one of our top priorities is protecting our environment and educating visitors on how they can ‘Take Care of Lake Tahoe’ and become stewards of our region. The Agents of Discovery app has helped us design and create Missions focused on our key destination stewardship messages related to wildfire safety, water quality, forest health and pollution. The Missions and Challenges we have at both the North Tahoe Regional Park and the Tahoe Vista Recreation Area are focused on educating our residents and visitors, while also engaging users in a fun and exciting game that gets them outside and exploring our parks and beaches.”

The North Tahoe Public Utility District Missions are focused on wildfire safety, forest health, watershed and ecosystem sustainability, water quality, pollution, and user impacts to the natural environment.

The “Water Quality & Beach Cleanup” Mission specifically focuses on trash and pollution in and around Lake Tahoe. There are new Challenges about microplastics to help educate and inform players about the problems that microplastics pose to our environment – and most importantly, how to reduce their personal plastic use.

The “Wildfire Lessons” Mission utilizes Smokey Bear as a commonly known and well regarded character to help educate players about the dangers of wildfires and how they can prepare their homes, communities, and their family and friends in case of an emergency.

The North Tahoe Public Utility District also has other Missions that are active during the winter to educate and inform residents and visitors to our parks about how the forest changes during the winter and what happens to the wildlife and trees and other plants during the cold winter months in Lake Tahoe.
