Mission of the Month: Missouri Department of Conservation

“Offering Missions with the Agents of Discovery app has drawn participation from people who may not have been aware that our nature centers, interpretive centers, and discovery center existed. It allows kids and families one more avenue to further explore the outdoors.”
The Missouri Department of Conservation has five Missions available this Spring: Swamp Stroll at Wood Duck Swamp, Water Wonders Mission, Spring Swing at Powder Valley, Wake Up! What Do Animals Do In Spring?, and Spring Splendors. As the weather warms up, these Missions are a great opportunity to get outside and enjoy the outdoors.
Players can visit the Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center to play the “Swamp Stroll at Wood Duck Swamp” Mission. The Mission explores the natural beauty and hidden wonders of Duck Creek Swamp. The Tulip Poplar Hill trail that this Mission follows has steep inclines of more than 15% and is not ADA or stroller accessible. The walk to Wood Duck Swamp on the trail is about an 1/8 of a mile.
The “Water Wonders Mission” is available at Springfield Conservation Nature Center. Players will walk the Boardwalk Trail and discover the aquatic plants and animals that live near water on the Boardwalk Trail. The trail is 1/3 mile in length and makes a loop. The Mission takes between 45 minutes and an hour to complete.
The” Spring Swing at Powder Valley” Mission can be played at Powder Valley Nature Center. Visitors will explore the wildlife behaviors and plant growth that happens in springtime at the nature center.
At Runge Conservation Nature Center, visitors can play the “Wake Up! What Do Animals Do In Spring?” Mission. This indoor Mission examines the nature center exhibits, teaches about wildlife, and explores what animals do in the spring.
When visiting Anita B. Gorman Discovery Center, people can play the “Spring Splendors” Mission. The Mission will help them discover the signs of spring all around the Discovery Center. All Challenges in this Mission are accessible from the trails or sidewalks.
Each of these Missouri Department of Conservation centers are open Tuesday through Saturday 8am-5pm. Players can claim prizes at the front desk during business hours. Find more info about the Missouri Department of Conservation centers here.
