Mission of the Month: Conejo Recreation & Park District

The Conejo Valley is home to dozens of parks, as well as thousands of acres of open space with hundreds of miles of hiking trails. Agents of Discovery has been a great addition to the programming offered by the Conejo Recreation and Park District. In our first year offering Missions by Agents of Discovery, we were very happy with the turnout for our monthly Missions and one day pop up events. The number of participants continues to grow as we offer new and exciting Missions.

The Conejo Recreation and Park District will have multiple Missions available all through the spring and summer. Get ready for four fun Missions that will get you outside exploring Conejo.

With schools about to get out for summer, the Recreation team thought it would be fun to do a camping Mission. From June 1-30, the Rancho Potrero Open Space will host the “Camp Trivia” Mission. Rancho Potrero Open Space is the perfect location for this Mission due to its natural features and trails running through the foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains. If visitors continue past the area where the Mission will take place, they can hike all the way to the Pacific Ocean. Visitors can play the Mission any time the park is open – from sunrise to sunset daily.

The Conejo Valley is home to an extensive biodiversity of bird species, so the “Birds of the Conejo Valley” Mission will be available at Chumash Indian Museum from June 1-30. The open space behind the Chumash Museum is full of trails that wind through ancient oak trees, making this location the perfect setting for a bird trivia Mission. The area is home to Great Horned Owls, Red Tail and Red Shoulder Hawks, Woodpeckers, as well as many other species of birds. This Mission should be a real “tweet” for patrons. After completing the Mission, players can check out the Chumash Indian Museum, which is open on Saturdays from 10am-4pm and on Sundays from 12-4pm.

Conejo Recreation & Park District wanted to celebrate the unique film history of the Conejo Valley with the “Movie and Film Trivia” Mission available at Wildwood Regional Park from July 1-31. The park has a rich history from prehistoric times through the golden age of Hollywood! This location is ideal for a movie and film trivia Mission, since Western TV shows like Gunsmoke and The Rifleman, as well many movie scenes, like Wuthering Heights, and The Grapes of Wrath, were filmed here. Aside from the historical interest of the park, it has beautiful scenery, miles of shared trails for all levels of visitors, several pleasant picnic areas, and abundant open space, which makes Wildwood Park a great place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. Visitors can enjoy the park from sunrise to sunset.

The Summer Olympics are coming up soon, and Conejo Recreation & Park District is excited to commemorate the occasion. The “History of the Olympics” Mission will be available at Dos Vientos Community Park from July 1-31. This Mission will focus on the history of the Olympics and trivia about the park. Patrons will have fun competing to complete the Mission and win the gold. Players can visit the park from 7am-10pm daily.

Remember to go to the Conejo Community Center to claim your prize after completing the Mission.
