Mission of the Month: Madera County Library
Madera County Library’s vision is to strengthen communities by providing a place for everyone to connect, learn, and grow; Agents of Discovery helps this vision extend beyond the library walls.
Initially Madera County Library utilized Agents of Discovery as part of a California State Library (CSL) Virtual Youth Programming Grant project whose goal was to create meaningful virtual programming for the school-aged audience. Hoping to break from virtually hosted classes/programs, Madera County Library saw Agents of Discovery as a way for youth to not only have meaningful programming, but also encourage youth to get out from sitting behind their computer screen and explore the outdoors.
Madera County Library’s current Agents of Discovery subscription is funded by the California State Library’s Parks Pass Programming Grant.
The California State Library’s Parks Pass
This pass is available to all public libraries in the state and provides free vehicle day-use access to participating state parks. All a person needs is a California library card to borrow the pass, and entry to participating California State Parks becomes free! California residents can check out a Parks Pass to discover new Missions at participating parks.
Madera County Library’s Mission: “Take a Hike!”
For the CSL Parks Pass Programming Grant project, Madera County Library has teamed up with Millerton Lake State Recreation Area (SRA). Their “Take a Hike!” Mission can be found on a nature trail between two campsite areas. This Mission revolves around conservation, fire safety, and the local plants and wildlife.
