Mission of the Month: Pacific Science Center

While the campus hosts hands-on exhibits, a planetarium, IMAX theaters, and a Makerspace, Agents of Discovery enhances the on-site experience. Guests are encouraged to discover exhibits in new ways as they complete Challenges in the educational mobile app. For example, many visitors enjoy the animatronic dinosaurs on display, but have they ever thought about the prehistoric plants featured alongside them? Pacific Science Center’s Spring Mission, “Blossoming Botanists,” invites guests to use their observation skills to determine which types of plants were common during the age of the dinos. Other Challenges invite guests to touch and play with interactives, extract meaning from museum signs, and ask questions of PacSci educators. Along the way, they’ll discover what kinds of plants are grown in outer space and how the butterflies in the center’s tropical butterfly house feed on flowers.

Exhibits are brought to life with augmented reality and interactive games as participants are challenged to make connections between current science and their own lives. Pacific Science Center features two Agents of Discovery Missions at a time, rotating each one approximately every three months. Each Mission innovates on the successes of the last to deliver an experience that is constantly evolving and better meets the needs of the science center visitors.
