Geofiltering with Social Media

Hey, Mission Makers! As we gear up for more exciting stuff to come in the fall, we wanted to provide a resource on behalf of our amazing Social Media team and make sure everyone is up to speed on some of the recent tools and promotional strategies that can be utilized over social media. These services are offered for free by Snapchat and require just a few minutes (as well as a dash of creativity!) to set up.

The above selfies are pictures taken with an AR Filter, which our partners at Bass Pro + Wonders of Wildlife created in a very short time using Snapchat’s Geofiltering service. At no charge, you can visit Snapchat’s site and upload your very own custom filter or frame to be applied over top of any selfies or photos.

1) Design your filter using Photoshop or similar software. Make sure to save it as a PNG file, with a transparent background.

2) Head over to Snapchat’s Create page and click on Get Started!

3) You’ll see a list of things you can do with Snapchat. Click on Community Filters, then click on Geofilter to the left.

4) Snapchat will take you to a Preview Space where you can Upload the filter you made earlier. Make sure that no important text or graphics are cut off by the margin lines as some phone screens will not be tall enough to display the entire filter. When you’re ready, click Continue.

5) Next, you’ll need to set the geofencing boundaries for this filter. The filter will be made available within Snapchat to any user that visits this exact location. You can use this to set geofencing boundaries around your Mission space so that anyone playing your Mission will have access to the filter!
