Player Response Challenges Are Back!

Happy New Year, Mission Makers! Our team took some time in December to revamp our Mission Maker, and coming back to the collection are Player Response Challenges!

We had to take these offline temporarily after a change in Google’s data collection policies. They are now back!!

If you’ve never created a Player Response Challenge, consider taking some time to see how they work! In a Player Response Challenge, you can ask learners to answer an open-ended question, take a photo, complete an activity, etc. This is a great way to engage your players’ critical thinking skills and have them apply what they learned through a unique and creative response. If you want to see responses, they can be viewed in your Statistics page.

Setting up a Player Response Challenge is pretty easy and the Question section only requires you to select Text Response or Image Response, and then type your question.

Trick or treat challenge option

Below are some great examples of Text-based Player Response questions, with some categories to help you start visualizing some ideas for your own Missions! The suggestions in the General category are especially useful to place at the end of Missions to collect feedback from players in the form of a mini-survey.

GENERAL QUESTIONS:

What was the most important thing you learned during your visit?
How will you remember this hike?
What’s something you learned today that even mom and dad don’t know!?
What was your favorite Challenge or activity during your visit?

NATURE / SCIENCE:

What was your favorite animal you learned about today?
Name an invasive/endangered species that lives near you.
Which animals that you have seen today, do you think go south for the winter?
What are some things in your backyard that might act as pollinators?
Stay quiet for a minute and listen carefully to the sounds around you. What do you hear?
What are some things you can do to reduce, reuse and recycle?
What does “leave no trace” mean to you?

HISTORY / CULTURE:

Try to describe what this spot might have looked like 200 years ago.
What do you think your job would be in an ancient Pueblo community?
Where did your ancestors come from? How far away would they be from here?
If you were to have lived in this village 100 years ago, what would you like most about it?
What did you like most about your tour today?

For photo-based Player Response ideas, consider some of the examples below:

1) Get your players to identify and capture the invasive species in your park!

2) Have your players create something using the natural resources in the area! There are a lot of great things you can do with snow in the winter.

3) If you have a bunch of interesting things you want your players to find, like flowers at a botanic garden for example, you can encourage them to find and take photos of them as part of a Photo Hunt.

PLAYER RESPONSE CHALLENGES!

Customers with Gold and Silver packages can take a look at the unique responses that logged-in players have submitted by opening the Statistics page in your Mission Maker.

Scroll down to a section called Challenge Statistics. On the far right side of any Player Response Challenges you have, you will see a button that says “View Responses.”

You can click on this to see all the photos that players have submitted in a Photo Response, and all the answers they’ve provided for Text Response Challenges!
