Mission of the Month: Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks

Clinton State Park
At Clinton State Park, Agents of Discovery offers a new technology that entices people of all abilities and backgrounds to get outside. By offering this opportunity within Kansas State Parks we expect to see more people engaging and learning about the great outdoors.
Clinton State Park offers some of the last remaining tallgrass prairie, which flourishes alongside a variety of wildlife. Many trail systems cross through the park, allowing hikers, birders and other outdoor enthusiasts to see this precious ecosystem up close.

The “Clinton State Park FDH” Mission showcases the tall grass prairie and educates players on how each piece is vital to the ecosystem’s survival. The Mission has Challenges about the “Leave No Trace” principles and explains to visitors how they can help keep these natural spaces healthy.
With Agents of Discovery, park visitors can receive a first class guided hike without the need for staff. This Mission is a great opportunity for outdoor enthusiasts of all ages to learn more about tall grass prairie and local ecosystems.
Great Plains Nature Center
Agents of Discovery has given us a new way to reach our guests and help them explore and appreciate the outdoors! We love having the ability to personalize our Field Agent, Missions, and Challenges to our site.
The Great Plains Nature Center sits on Chisholm Creek Park, a 280-acre area with restored wetlands, prairies, and forests. This Mission aims to celebrate Kansas’ habitats, plants, and animals.

As visitors explore the park, they will experience massive wetlands and grasslands that are home to a vast array of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and more. The Great Plains Nature Center Mission teaches about these habitats to help visitors better care for their’ flora and fauna!

Kanopolis State Park
After using the Agents of Discovery app it was clear the augmented reality worked well for interpreting the park’s natural characteristics to park visitors. We had numerous positive responses from app users, especially after completing the Mission and earning their prizes.
Kanopolis State Park lies within the Smoky Hills region of Kansas, where Dakota sandstone bluffs meet stunning vistas. More than 30 miles of trail system extends across this park, offering a variety of hiking, biking and equestrian paths. Rich history lies along these trails and within the canyons and caverns along the way.
This history is currently being turned into a Mission that will focus on the people who previously lived on the land as well as the geological structures in the park. The Mission is coming soon.
